Jesus is Lord and Candy & Kindness
Dear Grace Mountain Church Family, Today we considered what it means to follow Jesus as Lord. In Luke 5, Peter hears Jesus’ call, recognizes his own sinfulness, and leaves everything to follow Him. Early Christians also expressed their new, surrendered identity through a confession of faith, using the fish symbol to proclaim “Jesus Christ is God’s Son and my Savior.” The Greek word for fish, ICHTHYS, forms an acronym for that confession. As we begin a new week, consider this question: What is one specific way you can surrender to Jesus and follow Him as Lord? What’s Happening Next Sunda On November 1, we’ll continue our series with “The Glory of Jesus,” looking at John 2:1–12. At the wedding in Cana, Jesus turns water into wine, revealing His glory and His disciples believe in Him. Join us for worship at 9:30 a.m., followed by Afterthoughts potluck and discussion and our youth gathering at 10:45 a.m. Invite someone to come with you! This Week’s Reading Plan Monday: Isaiah 25 Tuesday: Amos 9 Wednesday: Matthew 5 Thursday: John 2 Friday: Revelation 19 As you read, consider: What stands out to you most in the story of the wedding at Cana in John 2:1–12? How do Isaiah 25, Amos 9, and Revelation 19 help us understand what Jesus’ provision of abundant wine reveals about His glory and the salvation He brings? What is one specific step you will take this week to respond to Jesus by trusting Him as Savior? This Week at Grace Mountain View the church calendar Monday, October 26 Essentials at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 29 Prayer at 9 a.m. Women’s Bible Study at 10 a.m. Neighborhood Potluck & Watch Party at 6 p.m. in the upstairs Afterthoughts room. One God, Three Persons & The Faithful Son
Dear Grace Mountain Church Family, Eva, Luke and Abby had fall break last week, and our family headed down to Texas. We had a great time! Thank you to Steve for preaching while we were away and to David for leading our Chosen watch party in my absence. Over the last two Sundays, we looked at “One God, Three Persons” (Matthew 3:13–17) and “The Faithful Son” (Matthew 4:1–11). At Jesus’ baptism, we see the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the wilderness, we see Jesus remain faithful to His Father through temptation. What’s Happening Next Sunday This Sunday, October 25, we continue Come and See Who Jesus Is with “Jesus Is Lord” from Luke 5:1–11. Peter encounters Jesus’ authority, recognizes his own sinfulness, and leaves everything to follow Him. What does it mean for us to trust Jesus and follow Him as Lord? Join us for worship at 9:30 a.m., followed by After Thoughts and Youth Group at 10:45 a.m. This Week’s Reading Plan: Download Here! Monday: Luke 1 — Jesus: The Promised Savior and Lord Tuesday: Luke 2 — Jesus: Savior, Messiah, and Lord Wednesday: Luke 3 — Preparing the Way for the Lord Thursday: Luke 4 — Jesus Announces His Mission and Authority Friday: Luke 5 — Peter Calls Jesus Lord and Follows Him As you read this week, consider: What changes in Peter’s response to Jesus throughout Luke 5:1–11? Why does encountering Jesus’ authority lead Peter to confess his sinfulness, and why does Jesus respond by calling Peter to follow him? What is one specific way you can surrender to Jesus and follow him as Lord this week? This Week Hope Kids — Friday, October 23 This is a wonderful opportunity to serve families in our community! If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Sharon. Volunteers should arrive at 5:00 p.m.; the event begins at 6:00 p.m. We’d love to have you help welcome and serve these families. Jesus is God
Grace Mountain Church Family, Yesterday, we began Come and See Who Jesus Is with the truth that anchors our entire series: Jesus is God. In John 1:1–18, John shows us who Jesus is from several complementary angles: Jesus is eternal. Before creation began, the Word already was Jesus is fully God. “The Word was with God, and the Word was God.” He is distinct from the Father, yet there is one God Jesus is our Creator. All things were made through Him. He is the Creator of everything that exists Jesus became flesh. The eternal Word entered our world and lived among us, full of grace and truth Jesus makes the Father known. In Him, we see God’s glory and come to know the Father All of these truths lead us to the same conclusion: Jesus is God. All who receive Him and believe in His name become children of God. This new birth is God’s gift, rather than something our ancestry or human effort can produce. Because of who Jesus is, John the Baptist bore witness to Him so that others might believe. Like John, we are called to point people toward Jesus through our words and our lives. The BLESS practices give us a simple way to do that: Begin with Prayer for someone Listen to them and learn their story Eat together and build a friendship Serve them in practical ways Share your story of what Jesus has done in your life Here is my challenge to everyone this week: invite three friends or neighbors to our Neighborhood Potluck and TV Watch Party or to Sunday service. The potluck gives us a natural opportunity to put BLESS into practice. Pray for the people you invite. Sit with them, listen, and share a meal. Look for ways to serve them and opportunities to talk about Jesus. A simple invitation can begin a meaningful relationship. Come and see who Jesus is and believe in Him. Then invite someone else to come and see, too. What’s Happening Next Sunday Next Sunday, October 11, we continue Come and See Who Jesus Is with Matthew 3:13–17 and the sermon: One God, Three Persons At Jesus’ baptism, the Son comes up from the water, the Spirit descends, and the Father speaks from heaven. We will consider how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct Persons while there is only one God. This Week’s Reading Plan: Download Here! Monday, October 5 — Deuteronomy 6 Tuesday, October 6 — Matthew 2 Wednesday, October 7 — Matthew 3 Thursday, October 8 — John 14 Friday, October 9 — 2 Corinthians 13 As you read this week, consider: What do you notice about God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit in Matthew 3:13–17? How do this week’s readings show that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct Persons while there is only one God? How could knowing God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit change the way you pray or worship this week? This Week Monday Essentials — Monday, October 5, at 6:00 p.m. Thursday Morning Prayer — Thursday, October 8, at 9:00 a.m. Women’s Bible Study — Thursday, October 8, at 10:00 a.m. Neighborhood Potluck and TV Watch Party — Thursday, October 8, at 6:00 p.m., upstairs this week.
